Retirees who have chosen Koh Samui as their home base need to know the visa renewal procedures and requirements to ensure they can continue to live here legally. In Thailand, the retirement visa is known as the Non-Immigrant OA Long Stay Visa. This visa is issued for a period of one year and can be renewed annually.

To renew your Non-Immigrant OA Long Stay Visa in Koh Samui, you will need to provide the following documents:

1. Passport with a valid visa
2. TM7 application form
3. One recent passport-sized photograph (4x6 cm)
4. Proof of financial means (800,000 THB in a Thai bank account or an income of at least 65,000 THB per month)
5. Health insurance that covers the entire period of your stay in Thailand

It's important to note that the financial means requirement must be met at the time of application and throughout the entire period of stay in Thailand. If you plan on using a Thai bank account to meet this requirement, you must have held the account for at least three months prior to your application.

Once you have gathered all the necessary documents, you can submit your application at the immigration office in Koh Samui. The fee for visa renewal is 1,900 THB.

Retirees who are over the age of 50 and have been living in Thailand for at least three years may be eligible for permanent residency. The application process is more complex and requires additional documentation, including police clearance certificates from your home country and Thailand.
